Surgical Robots, Sleep Tech, and Brain Interfaces: Intuitive, Resmed, and Precision Make Strategic Moves

Intuitive Surgical has received FDA clearance for its da Vinci Single Port system to perform transanal rectal procedures, allowing access to upper rectal lesions without abdominal incisions. The single-port robot, which enables surgeons to operate multiple instruments through one entry point, is already seeing strong adoption overseas, with 94% procedural growth in Q1, and now aims to expand U.S. market presence following this clearance and an earlier stapler approval.

On the diagnostics and neurotech front, Resmed acquired Virtuox, a home-based sleep diagnostics facility, as part of a broader strategy to drive CPAP prescriptions amid growing interest in sleep apnea treatments spurred by GLP-1 drugs like Eli Lilly’s Zepbound. Additionally, brain-computer interface company Precision Neuroscience appointed John Woock—formerly of Axonics—as chief business officer to prepare for scaling its recently FDA-cleared neural interface platform.
