Medtronic has secured Nanovis’ nano surface technology to integrate into its PEEK interbody spine fusion devices, which are designed to enhance implant fixation and promote more consistent bone growth. Nanovis, having already developed and received FDA clearance for its Adaptix PEEK interbody system, brings a proprietary approach that includes nanotube scaffolding with calcium and phosphate for improved integration with spinal structures. By incorporating this innovation, Medtronic aims to further strengthen its spine portfolio and advance patient outcomes in spinal fusion procedures.
This acquisition comes amid Medtronic’s ongoing expansion in the spine market, where it has reported steady growth in core spine and biologics. CEO Geoff Martha has emphasized the importance of technological advancements and scale in maintaining a competitive edge, highlighting the industry’s shift toward integrated solutions that include imaging, robotics, navigation, and planning software. By leveraging its commercial reach, Medtronic is well-positioned to drive innovation in spine care and capitalize on the evolving market dynamics favoring companies with strong technological capabilities.
