GE Healthcare Expands Contrast Media Production in Ireland

GE Healthcare is investing $138 million to expand its contrast media fill and finish manufacturing site in Cork, Ireland. This new facility, expected to be operational by the end of 2027, will boost production capacity by 25 million patient doses annually. The expansion aligns with the company’s long-term forecast that global demand for iodinated contrast media—essential for CT and X-ray imaging—will double within the next decade.

This investment is part of GE Healthcare’s broader strategy to strengthen supply chain security and meet growing demand for contrast-enhanced imaging procedures, especially in emerging markets. The new 3,000-square-meter facility will house advanced filling lines and powder handling systems to enhance production efficiency. With the contrast media market projected to grow from $5 billion in 2022 to $7 billion, GE Healthcare continues to expand its manufacturing footprint in Ireland, Norway, and China to ensure a stable supply chain and capitalize on market opportunities.
