The FDA has added hemodialysis bloodlines to its Medical Device Shortages List following supply disruptions from B. Braun. The shortage, expected to impact patient care through early fall 2025, may require adjustments in treatment management. B. Braun attributed the issue to supplier constraints, ceasing its Streamline FMC Bloodlines production and recommending alternatives from Fresenius and Nipro.
The FDA urges healthcare providers to implement conservation strategies to mitigate the impact while continuing dialysis treatments. The agency collaborates with manufacturers and dialysis providers to monitor and address the shortage.
