BD Boosts U.S. Production: Expansion Brings Jobs and Increased Syringe Output

BD has expanded its manufacturing capacity for syringes, needles, and IV catheters at its Nebraska and Connecticut facilities, following a $10 million investment last year. This expansion has resulted in the creation of over 215 full-time jobs and the installation of new production lines, with one already operational and additional lines expected soon. Once fully functional, the expansion will boost BD’s domestic injection device production by more than 40% and increase conventional syringe output by over 50%. The company also plans to invest over $30 million in 2025 to further expand IV catheter production at its Utah facility.

Despite recent layoffs affecting nearly 775 employees across five states in 2023, BD is now adding jobs, including more than 70 positions at its Columbus, Nebraska site. The layoffs, particularly in Holdrege, Nebraska, were linked to the spinoff of BD’s diabetes care business, and the company recently announced plans to close a facility in Ireland over the next two and a half years. BD’s investments are aimed at enhancing production capacity to meet growing healthcare demands while reallocating resources for operational efficiency.
