Amazon has filed a patent for an automated sleep assistant in the form of a smart pillow designed to aid individuals with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Unlike traditional CPAP machines and implantable devices, Amazon's non-invasive system aims to provide a more accessible, convenient solution for sleep disturbances.
The smart pillow would feature sensors to detect movement, an audio input for analyzing sleep sounds, and inflatable air bladders that provide haptic feedback to adjust head positioning. If the system detects a head movement linked to OSA, it could trigger the bladders to tilt the head, potentially improving airway openness. Additionally, the pillow may also address snoring and other sleep disturbances with targeted adjustments.
